“As engaging, if not more so, than multimillion dollar Hollywood extravaganzas.” ~ Mountain Xpress

Take Me Home: The Music of John Denver
Starring Jim Curry

The music of the late John Denver is like an old friend, outlasting trends and standing the test of time. Join acclaimed performer Jim Curry for this tribute to the music of one of the most beloved singer-songwriters ever to grace the stage.

Tribute artist Jim Curry, whose voice was heard in the CBS-TV movie Take Me Home: The John Denver Story, has performed Denver’s music in sold out shows throughout the country and has emerged as today’s top performer of Denver’s vast legacy of multi-platinum hits.

Jim’s uncanny ability to mirror John’s voice and clean-cut look takes you back to the time when “Rocky Mountain High” “Sunshine” “Calypso” and “Annie’s Song” topped the charts, and his popular music had the heartfelt message of caring for the earth and caring for each other.

If you saw the past plays produced each summer by the Power of the Purse, then you know how funny they are! This year’s Savannah Sipping Society was written by the same playwrights as four of those past plays. Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten enjoy the reputation of being three of the most popular playwrights in the United States, specializing in writing laugh-out-loud comedies.

Savannah Sipping Society features four strong, unique Southern women. Amanda Camp plays Randa, a perfectionist and workaholic struggling to cope with a surprise career derailment; Elizabeth Ashmore plays Jinx, a spunky ball of fire who offers her services as a life coach; Stephanie Turner plays Marlafaye, a good ol’ Texas gal who has come to Savannah ready to seek revenge on her ex-husband; and Scottie Jennings in the role of Dot is reeling from her husband’s recent demise.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on August 18, 19 and 20 and at 2:30 p.m. on August 21 at the University of West Georgia’s Townsend Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are $20 and all proceeds benefit Power of the Purse, a women’s giving circle sponsored by the Community Foundation of West Georgia. Each year the organization issues grants benefiting women and children’s needs in the community.

Tickets may be purchased online at townsendcenter.org, by phone at 678-839-4722 or in person at the Townsend Center during office hours (Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).

Springtime has arrived here on the Range. The ponies are saddled and ready to head out for the Townsend Center at UWG. We have a wonderful show for you on Friday, May 6th at 7:30 PM. We will perform our tribute to Roy Rogers: King of the Cowboys.

Join us in this thrilling ride to yesteryear as we salute iconic western movie, music and TV Star Roy Rogers. Our show is a multi-media romp featuring family-friendly favorites from Roy’s long career: Don’t Fence Me In, Pecos Bill and Happy Trails. All of these songs and more are presented in our two-time Grammy winning high yodeling style.

Our show will include film clips of Roy’s greatest moments with Dale Evans, Trigger and the Sons of the Pioneers. There is also a film montage tribute to “The Greatest Sidekick of ‘Em All: Gabby Hayes!” Ranger Doug will provide some fun facts about Roy’s life, from his humble beginnings as Leonard Slye to one of Hollywood’s most beloved stars.

History will most certainly link Riders In The Sky to the loveable cowboy Woody, as Riders performed Woody's Round Up in Toy Story 2. The album of the same name garnered our first Grammy Award in 2001 for Best Musical Album for Children. Two years later, we roped our second Grammy in the same category, for Monsters Inc. - Scream Factory Favorites.
